When planning a wedding the word flowers typically conjures images of bouquets, center pieces, boutonnieres and corsages. While this seems like a fairly short list it can quickly become daunting as tables and wedding party members are counted and then, what about the rest of the room? The cake? The chairs? The aisle? The altar? This is where creativity in floral design is not only essential but it can really make your dream wedding a reality! Today’s flower tip is from the amazing Ashlee and Beth with Linger Floral!
I think we speak for all florists when we recommend you get us involved from day one (or close to it) to help with color selection, varieties, pieces, décor, etc. This is important for two primary reasons;
1) While most flowers can be ordered any time of year they can vary in size and color (even just a little bit) based on the season. As special event florists our goal is to provide you with the most brilliant and rich florals available. You will find it is well worth your time to consult with a floral artist before you confirm your colors, which, as we all know, set the tone for the entire wedding. More on this topic in Natalie Bernhisel-Robinson’s post on May 8th.
2) Aks the experts! As a floral community we delight in learning from one another, this truly fuels our creativity. We not only learn about flower varieties, unique accents and how to arrange them, but also how to make them a practical addition to any special event.
WE ALL WANT IT ALL!
Picture your perfect ceremony; flowers lining the aisle and lush arrangements with your husband to be greeting you at the altar… but wait, what about the reception? You absolutely must have it blooming with the natural warmth and romance that only flowers provide…. How do you choose? Relying on the creativity of your floral artist you really can have it all! Flowers used in a ceremony can quickly be moved and even rearranged to provide a fresh look at the reception. This creative solution will dazzle your guests while still keeping your budget intact, or maybe even helping you conserve a little for that well deserved honeymoon!
WHAT ABOUT DÉCOR?
While tradition ensures your wedding party is adorned with fresh blooms there are many other simple touches that will wow your guests. Some of our favorites are chair swags, a tasteful bunch of flowers or greens hanging on the back of chairs throughout the room will add the fanciful touch and completeness to any event. Speaking of hanging flowers what about pomanders? These stunning pieces add elegance to any occasion; Audrey O’Brien said it all in her post dedicated to this art.
THE QUICK LIST
As with any professional who is passionate about their work we tend to ramble on and on, we just can’t say enough! So to keep it simple here is the quick list for ensuring your wedding décor is fresh, unique, memorable and complete:
** Hanging containers – they come in all shapes, colors and sizes to be filled with your favorite varieties and accents.
** Table accents – add elements outside of the centerpiece(s) like rocks, moss, ribbon, buds, votives, etc.
** Chair swags – this seemingly small detail leaves a big impression!
** Hairpieces – why constrain flowers to hands and lapels? A hairpiece is not only easier to carry; it also represents the romance and grace of a simpler time.
** Windows, frames and railings – draw attention to these architectural features by garnishing with natural elements.
** Pomanders, pomanders, pomanders – enough said!
** Plants – aside from flowers, consider renting plants to enhance the natural presence.
** Lighting, accent pieces, linens, etc. – if you are concerned about overwhelming yourself with too many vendors, consider your florist as a design professional to assist with all of your décor needs.
