Bride & Groom: Lexi & Billy Burgess
How you met: Billy and I both attended Lone Peak High School. He was a Senior when I was a sophomore. We knew of each other but we were more “acquaintances.” He then served a 2 year LDS mission in Brazil, and returned in November of 2008. I had been hanging out with some of his friends when he returned and therefore through mutual friends we got to know each other.
How he proposed: Billy loves surprises and really wanted me to be surprised. We had pretty much decided we were getting married, but we hadn’t gone ring shopping or talked about dates. He had kind of been acting weird, and it seemed to me like he had become unsure about getting married. Of course I was in a panic, because I knew I was supposed to marry him and he had started backing down. Well to my surprise it was all an act! He had asked my dad and was just trying to get me completely fooled. The next morning he carved a pumpkin, he told me he was practicing for our pumpkin carving contest we had planned with his friends. I just thought his competitive side was coming out and he wanted to get a jump start. We spent such a fun day together, we went up the mountains and looked at the beautiful fall leaves, we went to the football game, and went out to dinner. On the car ride home from dinner he brought up his pumpkin carving AGAIN, he was telling me what a good job he did. He then began telling me that it was kind of scary and I might get scared. I was just laughing and thinking; obviously I am not going to be scared of a pumpkin! He kept talking it up, so of course I agreed to see the “amazing and scary” pumpkin. We got back to his house and he told me I had to close my eyes and wait for him to light the pumpkin. He lit the pumpkin and told me to turn it around but I had to promise him one thing: I couldn’t scream. I looked at him like that was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. Still completely unsuspicious, I turned the pumpkin around and carved in it was, “Will you Marry Me!!” I sat there for a moment (billy says it was 30 seconds but it was more like 5) and I turned around and said.. are you serious!?!? and he said yes!! Still completely shocked, he asked me again, so will you marry me? and I said YES!!
