UBB Fall Inspiration Shoot {Design Details}

Fall colors are usually deeper, bolder colors, but they don’t have to always be in your typical dark reds, oranges, or gold colors for a fall wedding.  Jewel tones are rich, luxurious, and gives a new and refreshing take on fall.   Today we are showing off how to incorporate your color palette into your design details, invitations and cake!

As I often tell my clients… don’t just make a statement with your invitations, make the RIGHT statement. The invitation designed for this inspiration shoot says: “we’re modern, bold & playful, come celebrate with us!” The mustard hexagon print was a great way to bring in color as well as highlight the geometric patterns featured throughout the wedding. The use of this hexagon print as an ultra-wide band wrap, took a typical invite element & made it unique. To keep the look clean & modern, we used large typography on the left side– why not tell the world that your man adores you?! Sweet & to the point. The insert cards added an extra pop of color while maintaining a refined, modern design. One of our Polka Dots & Daisies specialties is adding a fun printed pattern to the backside of the invitation & insert cards– just a little way to show your guests that you left no detail untouched! And to add a little more flavor we chose a unique envelope too. Envelopes can set your invitation apart from the rest of the mail your guests receive, so yes, they do matter! The envelope we paired with this invite ensemble is a button tie style that brings some rustic flair, since this was an outdoor event. The unique combination of rustic + modern makes for an unexpected surprise, which is yet another way to make things fun & exciting for your guests.

To spice up the table setting, die cut hexagon menus were made to coordinate with the invitations. Die cut stationery pieces are a growing trend in the wedding industry. They can be done in just about any shape and add unique interest. The favor tags were also done in the hexagon shape. Using a bold color background, like we did for the insert cards, menus & favor tags is a great way to utilize your wedding color palette. Bold color statements like this are another growing trend. If you’re a fan of color, don’t be afraid to use it in your invitations. Remember, your invites should not only represent your wedding, but also your personality. One of the key ingredients to making this invitation ensemble successful was adding personality to each piece. The wording we chose was playful, using bold typography phrases like “Nathaniel Sanders Loves Erin Romney,” “Dinner is Served,” and “Thanks for Celebrating our Love.” Unique wording like this, is a great way to infuse your personality.

Hopefully these inspiration shoot invites & paper products have inspired you to have fun in creating your own invitations. Remember to use your wedding theme, color palette & shining personality combined together to make the RIGHT statement with your wedding invites! And if that all sounds a bit overwhelming, don’t forget that your invitation designer can always help. Best wishes & happy inviting!

For the inspiration of the cake, I really wanted to play off the rustic and organic elements of the theme of the wedding, with particular inspiration coming from the honeycomb and bees along with some really fun and earthy textures, like the grosgrain fondant bow and ribbon borders and the real burlap I used for covering the cake base.  I wanted to incorporate many of the theme colors into the cake without it being overly busy or colorful, so I kept the background a creamy ivory color and then added accent colors in the deep berry tones, teal, and gold colors.  For a touch of whimsy and also adding some “movement” to the cake, I used coiled wires that I attached some of the fondant bees to, which gave the feeling of flying or buzzing bees.  One of the really big trends in cakes right now is doing mixed heights for the tiers, where some tiers are taller than other tiers.  It’s a great way to keep a traditional and more classic shape, like round, but add a little bit more interest to the cake.  For this cake, I did the bottom tier taller than the other 3 tiers, but you can add mixed heights on multiple tiers and in any combination.  Have fun with it!

Don’t be afraid to use color on your cake.  Some of my absolute favorite wedding cakes are full or color and personality.   If you prefer to keep your cake more muted, adding just a touch of 1 or 2 colors can really elevate the cake to a showstopper.  Remember, a wedding cake serves 2 purposes, one is that it has to taste great and be enjoyed by your guests and the other is that it is a major centerpiece of the décor of the reception.  Everyone at your reception wants to see the cake, kids and adults alike, so make sure your cake really has some personality to it.
