What brought you into a floral design career? I was working in the wedding industry as an on-site wedding coordinator for a reception site. I absolutely loved watching all the beautiful flowers brought in for different weddings. I realized how much I loved flowers and decided one day that I would try my hand in the profession. I was really lucky and had a few clients put their trust in me. I’ve now been designing flowers for weddings and special events for 8 years. It’s been a fun and exciting journey so far!

What inspires you and where do you find inspiration when it’s lacking? My mom loves gardening and has done some amazing landscaping in her own yard. Sitting in her backyard summer after summer and seeing how beautiful her flowers are inspires me. Anything in nature inspires me. It could be rich colors in the fall or the blooming trees in the spring. If I’m lacking inspiration not only do I turn to nature but I love keeping up on trends by turning to magazines, websites and the designs of some amazing florists.

What do you love most about wedding floral design? I love how each wedding brings new ideas and challenges. I get so excited when a bride comes to me with something I’ve never done before. Even if two brides have similar styles their flowers and over all design end up looking different because of their personalities. Being in the floral design industry allows me to challenge myself and to continue being creative every single day.

If you could tell bride’s one piece of advice in regards to wedding florals what would it be? My one piece of advice would be to choose flowers and designs that reflect your style and personality. When someone walks into the room the flowers you have chosen really help define the theme and style of your wedding and it also shows a piece of your personality.

Tell us a little about yourself: I just got married last September to my best friend, Jared. I loved planning my own wedding… it was such a happy day! I was born and raised in Providence, Utah along with 5 siblings and moved to Salt Lake City 9 years ago to pursue my career. Some of my favorite things to do in my free time would be running, playing softball, hiking, reading, traveling and creating new things for my home. I also love spending time with family and friends.

what would you call your own floral style and why? It’s hard to define my floral style. I love designing flowers for classic weddings but I also love it when brides come to me with new and unique ideas. I feel I’m able to design flowers to match the personality and vision of the bride. My floral portfolio shows many different styles of weddings but if I had to describe my style in a few words I would say it’s refined but not too structured.

what is your favorite up and coming trend? My favorite trend right now for 2012 is the royal wedding. I love the look of a glamorous black tie event. It’s a very romantic and elegant look and I love that. I’m excited this year to use a lot of the neutral tones like gold, champagne, ivory, white and even soft pink. It’s going to be a great year!

Happy day after LOVE day! We hope many of you are still on a romantic high! Today we have a lovely groomal feature from Brooke Bakken Photography. We love the classic style of this couple that lends to a little throw back charm and regalement. The bride, Emily, clearly has great tastes! Her stunning bouquet came from Urban Chateau.

Sweet Memory Garden photographed this ever-so-sweet engagement shoot. Kimber makes one gorgeous cupid! And Craig is clearly captured! Valentines day is about love and the celebration thereof so we wanted to bring you something extra lovely and magical to rest your eyes on and a tid bit of advice from the two of us married veterans here at UBB on keeping the romance alive!

Megan has been married to Josh for nearly 7 years, they have a beautiful boy and another on the way. Her advice … Pick your battles! Not everything is really worth fighting over so keep the big picture in perspective. Life can be really busy and for me it is no exception, sometimes alone time has to be scheduled or blocked out to get enough of it in to keep things strong, don’t be afraid to be a relationship secretary!

Audrey has been married to Nate for nearly 14 years! They have 4 gorgeous kids, her advice …. Marriage is hard, and is constant work. Remember that and try not to become complacent or things will slip through cracks and potentially begin to unravel. Intimacy and alone time are crucial, like Meg said sometimes it it even needs to be scheduled. For us we are so busy with the demanding schedules of our careers, 3 very athletic kids, and a new baby, that it has become more important to focus on quality over quantity and then that quality goes far and gets us through to our next intimate opportunity.

Do you remember how the winter season was long last year, seeming to last until nearly June?  Well, Carson and Orrin were married last May but the wet, cold weather felt like a typical day in early March!  But as you are about to see, the day managed to turn out beautifully in spite of the freezing temps.

The ceremony took place at the Draper Temple, and the reception was held at Wadley Farms.  Carson was a detail-oriented bride, which (as brides go) just so happens to be our favorite variety!  Although today’s post features the wedding floral specifically, credit should go to Carson for putting together a beautiful event all around, and to Ravenberg Photography for the gorgeous images.

First, let’s talk about Carson’s bouquet – it was a true natural beauty!  The bouquet was made up of tulips, lisianthus, two varieties of stock, scabiosa pods, wheat, succulents, dusty miller, waxflower, frog-eyed berzelia, eucalyptus pods, silver dollar eucalytpus, and birch branches.  It was finished with a sky blue satin ribbon and showcased a darling dragonfly pin, which was the one piece of jewelry the bride’s grandmother left to her a year prior.  The perfect touch of sentimentality!

The bridesmaids were asked to choose their own attire based on a khaki and tan color scheme with gold or tan shoes, and therefore the chosen styles were unique to each maid.  That being the case, we wanted to mirror that feel in the bridal party floral.  Each bridesmaid’s bouquet was made up of one type of flower taken out of the bride’s bouquet, including stock (two varieties), gypsophila, and tulips.  The look was tied together and made cohesive when each bouquet was finished with silver dollar eucalyptus, dusty miller, and sky blue ribbon.

The boutonnieres were simple and natural, composed of calla lilies, frog-eyed berzelia, scabiosa pods, silver dollar eucalyptus, and dusty miller.  They were finished with sage ribbon and champagne pins.

Just like the other designs, the centerpieces at the reception were also simple and natural.  The goal was to bring in a more wildflower look as opposed to a meticulously arranged style.  Each table had a cedar wood piece in the center (which, by the way, were all carved by the groom’s grandfather), on top of which were placed an eclectic mix of three bud vases showcasing various blooms.  We placed several succulents on each table as well which really completed the look.

Finally, let’s talk about the cake, which really was the showstopper of the night.  Seated on top of a cedar base, Cakes by Dawna created a buttercream masterpiece which was the perfect canvas for our custom floral work.  The specific blooms used were identical to those in the bride’s bouquet with an addition of calla lilies.  Other than that, we’ll let the images speak for themselves – we love, love, LOVE!

It is always such a pleasure to see a client’s vision take shape and come to life.  Carson’s event went off without a hitch… well, not counting the hitching that went on between she and the hubs, of course!
