Flower Friday: Flowers & Food

Flowers & food, these two elements are absolute necessities for any wedding, even the smallest soiree’s, and so it naturally goes that they would connect while they coincide. They by no means have to connect but it makes a strong aesthetic difference when they do! And most professional vendors in both disciplines actually prefer that the two arts blend.

Flowers make things beautiful and food nourishes and entertains, but at a wedding presentation is everything! What caterer wouldn’t want a little help from a lovely bloom or two? Or perhaps a bit of green like in the images above, a growing element to tie it all together and create the cohesiveness every wedding should encounter.

One big floral mistake brides often make is skimping on their buffet or food ensemble floral allotment, or just not addressing it at all. We understand the need to prioritize, and that bouquet and those stunning centerpieces may definitely come first but this is not an area to be forgotten.

As a florist myself I can attest to a regular conversation that occurs between caterer and florist when a bride has excluded or neglected this in their floral package, it usually results in me throwing together a little something or helping the caterer make use of the dehydrated stems left over in our bucket, not ideal and a sub par addition to your event. This area could have been stellar had just a little bit of pre-design and budget been allocated. On the recommendation of this florist take the initiative to allocate some floral budget to this area{s}, talk with your florist and caterer about it and make sure that your food presentation includes what it needs to maintain elegant presentation.

The above drink station {courtesy of the amazing Culinary Crafts} would be lovely without the flowers, but with them it is gorgeous! This is an easy ensemble to visualize without the flowers, can you imagine the simplicity? This look is still simple and clean but it is just extra lovely and very bridal with those two lovely arrangements.

Desert buffets are big right now and an easy way to offer your reception guests a little treat but not break the bank with a full dinner. The flowers at this table do not overwhelm or overtake what the table’s main focus is, in fact they accentuate! A very creative use of some simple stems and blooms pushes this table into one cohesive piece of art, well executed presentation and a feast for all the senses.

Just one gorgeous buffet arrangement can make all the difference! Even for a casual set up a little elegance and formality is required to make it feel like the special day that it really is. Imagine this table without an arrangement and suddenly you may assume it is a less elegant event.

Another area to consider when thinking of your floral package, your favor table! What might you need to send your guests off with the same first impression you gave them when they arrived?

It is all in the details when it comes to a gorgeous wedding day and often times it can be daunting to remember all the areas that require your mind and money. Our goal and desire here at UBB has always been to help and inspire. We hope that you will consider the merging of these two necessities when planning your gorgeous soiree.
