Spring 2012 Inspiration Shoot {Table Scape}

The table scape is one of the most important design details and focal points at your wedding celebration. There is a lot of elements that go into creating the perfect table like custom linens, gorgeous floral arrangements, paper details and of course gourmet food! Your table scape is a perfect place to really show off the color palette and theme of your event. Check out how Forevermore Events, Blossom Sweet, Pink Piggy Design and Sweet Cakes by Karen incorporated our modern + fun theme into a gorgeous table scape!

“Stripes, Patterns and Plaid are one of the hottest trends for weddings right now! Yes! These fun and flirty patterns are truly season-less and it’s also super easy to incorporate into your wedding details. Times have changed, and brides want their wedding to be unique, not cookie-cutter. A great way to liven up your wedding is by being bold with patterns, such as a splash with a table runner, bridesmaid dresses or ring bearers knickers. Have fun with your wedding! Don’t feel boxed in by what has always been done. You cannot go wrong by adding a little personal style to your wedding! Using stripes, patterns, or plaids will leave your guests knowing that fun is what your wedding was!” - Laura Stagg, Forevermore Events

Entrada’s catering services are unmatched in southern Utah. Our talented staff of catering and culinary professionals are dedicated to excellence and ensuring that your event is executed flawlessly. Entrada Catering Services will assist you with event design, menu creation, bar services, set-up and clean-up.”

“When it comes to wedding desserts, we are head over heals in love! Bring on the French macaroons, cupcakes and mini pies! Dessert tables are going beyond the traditional three-tiered wedding cake and elevating the sweet tooth into an absolute art form. The dessert table is a new wave that is a perfect way to enhance your wedding with some real eye candy!” – Laura Stagg, Forevermore Events

We are in love with the design and structure of the cake designed by Sweet Cakes by Karen! The unique octagon shape of the top tier combined with orange stripes and blossoms is absolutely perfect and a statement piece! Don’t be afraid to use different shapes and patterns on your cake, if done right it can still have a very polished sophisticated look.

Spring 2012 Inspiration Shoot {Fashion}

Hi and good morning lovely UBB readers! We hope everyone has enjoyed our Spring Inspiration shoot so far. We have a week full of gorgeous images and unique ideas so get ready for lots of orange! Today we will be featuring the “fashion” side of the shoot. Which for some brides can be the most important part… the dress, the hair, the jewels and of course no fashionable bride would be complete without a well groomed, well styled man!

The Dress:
“The Edinburgh gown by Blue by Enzoani is a Skilky Dupioni, modified A-line gown with a ruched bodice.  The draped skirt has an inset floral detail of cut dupioni and organza.    This style of gown is a perfect dress for a bride who wants class and something unique.  The cut fabric detail that resembles a rosette design is a design element that adds a unique flair to the gown.  The modified A-line style is very popular right now.  With the slightly dropped waist, it hugs the body more than your traditional A-line dress without being a mermaid silhouette.  This gown is also popular because of the versatility to accessorize!  The styling can go modern and chic, romantic and whimsical, or formal and sophisticated!” – Whitney Hasenyager, Gateway Bridal

The Jewelery:
The perfect dress must be accompanied by the perfect accessories and jewelery! We were beyond thrilled to have J. Brooks Jewelers provide some exquisite pieces for this shoot! We are all about the bling and statement pieces! Love the unique combination of rose gold and diamonds! It’s all about the gold and rose gold rings this season.

-The ladies engagement ring is designed by Simon G. It’s 18kt white and rose gold with pink diamonds. The center of the ring has 9 center stones totaling to 1 carat. {$13,750.00}

-The men’s band is designed by Carlex. The ring is 18kt white and rose gold. {$3,900.00}

-The diamond pendant is designed by Gregg Ruth and it contains 2.28 total weight of diamonds in a cross pear pendant. It’s featured on an 18” wheat chain. {$11,495.00}

-The large bangle is designed by Leslie Greene. The bangle is in sterling silver with diamonds. {$1,410.00}

-Earrings are designed by Simon G.

The Hair & Makeup:
“It was a pleasure to be involved in the Spring Utah Bride Blog Shoot! For this particular shoot/bride I was going for a chic, sophisticated look that was clean and fresh. For the makeup we accented her blue eyes with brown and peach hues, false eyelashes for a more dramatic look, enhanced her cheekbones and lips with a dusty rose shade. It is always important that the hair style suits the face shape and dress. The hair was loosly curled, teased, braided in several different areas to create texture, and pinned up for an elegant yet flirty style. We added beautiful hair accessories to compliment the look.”Jaclyn Lamoreaux, Hair & Makeup Design

The Custom Suit:
This suit was designed to reflect a lot of popular trends we’re seeing this season in menswear:

  • Fit: It’s everything.  When a suit fits perfectly people notice and it just looks better.  We made sure we tapered the sleeves and chest of this suit to avoid any boxiness or billowing commonly found when you buy off the rack. We kept this suit tailored nicely to the wearers body, which is essential.
  • Fabric: This cloth is one of our newer fabrics and we love the color.  Light gray is a great choice for weddings this year.  It’s casual, but classy – and a great alternative to the “all-too-common” classic black.  Also, see if you can catch the subtle texture of the fabric – it’s a great detail that we love.
  • Pocket Square: First of all, if you’re not planning to wear a pocket square on your wedding day think again.  It’s the easiest way to accent your outfit and dress properly for the formal occasion.  A suit looks better with a pocket square, and it instantly adds Style Points to your look.
  • The Orange accents: Orange and gray is a very flattering combination – very appropriate for Spring and Summer weddings.
  • Cuff Links: Just like the pocket square – don’t skip this essential.  There’s no excuse for wearing a less-formal button cuff on the day you get married.
  • Wide Spread Shirt Collar: You can’t go wrong with a perfect white shirt. Consider going with a wide spread collar on your next shirt, which is something you might not already have in your current wardrobe.  It’s slightly more modern so only wear it if you’re comfortable in it.

“It’s easy to put the groom’s wardrobe on the back-burner.  It happens.  But with a little help, you can look great with your bride and look back on your wedding pictures proudly forever.  At Dress Code our team of Style Consultants work individually with each client to design the perfect suit or tuxedo for their upcoming wedding.  Our suits range between $249 – $349 and are built to your measurements so they fit you perfectly.  To learn more or to set up an appointment, visit www.DressCodeCustom.com.”

UBB Spring 2012 Inspiration Shoot!

Good morning UBB readers!! We are beyond excited to finally be able to share our much anticipated Spring Inspiration Shoot with everyone!! Our seasonal shoots are always our favorite weeks of the year when we get to show of some unique ideas and the fabulous vendors we have here in Utah! Make sure to check back all week to see more gorg images to inspire you and great advice from our vendors!

The concept for our Spring Shoot was inspired by the color of the year… Tangerine Tango! If you have been planning your wedding you a probably are already aware of this bright hue, but might be a little afraid of incorporating it into your color palette. We wanted to show how this bright color can be used correctly to create a fun, modern yet elegant wedding!

There was just no better place to capture this look then at the beautiful Entrada in St. George! This venue is beyond breathtaking with the orange rocks and green landscape. Jimmy Bishop with Gideon Photography did an AMAZING job capturing this preppy, flirty and sophisticated look!

It was also such a pleasure to work with the talented Laura Stagg with Forevermore Events! Laura shares a little bit behind the design elements from this shoot:

“Ok so we have all seen the cute lounge furniture at weddings and we have seen the tissue pom pom but how about the combo of all of this! An amazing lounge with white tufted furniture, darling white tent with a canopy of bright tangerine tissue pom poms over head! Add in extra signage details, beautiful flowers and custom drinks to create the perfect festive touch your guests will love!”

“A new trend is heading main stream in outdoor ceremonies. Instead of the traditional set up of the bride’s side on the left and the groom’s side on the right, couples are choosing to have a circular seating arrangement where family and friends can surround them in a circle of love. The circle symbolizes something that goes on forever and oneness. It is an unbroken line that has no beginning and no end. It emphasizes completeness and unity. The bride and groom are able to feel and experience the strong bond of those who love them most! I am in love with this idea! The inner circle could seat your parents and bridal party while the larger circle your extended family and friends. All guests will be able to see the bride and groom exchange vows in the center. The perfect way to start your married life with those who are nearest and dearest to you is with a circle of love!” - Lara Stagg, Forevermore Events

We were so lucky to have Nathan Pickett Films join us in St. George to videograph this fun shoot! Loved working with him and love the style of this video and how it portrays the fun + flirty shoot! Videography is so important to have at your wedding because it can truly capture the emotions of the day and the unique connection of the couple!

“First, it was amazing to me as I realized how the decor and design of a wedding can create a mood.  Inspired by the bright, simple, and colorful elements I wanted to create a video that really showed them off.  Second, I decide to highlight these elements with a touch of that look from old home videos that captured the pure sweet feelings and experiences of springs and summers past.  The intended final result was a fresh look at how fun and light your wedding could be by incorporating such a lovely setup.  So happy to have been a part of this great collaboration of professionals and innovators in the industry.” - Nathan Pickett Films

Flower Friday: Meet Studio Stems

Today we continue our meet the 2012 preferred florists series with Audrey of Studio Stems. This seasoned florist has been around for a good long time, she is highly published in both national and local publications and is one involved lady when it comes to UBB {wink!}. Enjoy getting to know her & Studio Stems!

What brought you into a floral design career? I have loved anything and everything design since I was very young, I also have an interior design background and have dabbled in many design formats along my journey. Not long after I began my “adult” life I felt very pulled to the floral design corner of the industry. I have always highly valued education so I set out on a journey to acquire as much education in the field as possible, including a job at a wholesaler where I learned a great deal about flowers and their care. Then when I felt ready I dove into entrepreneurship and started my own floral design company.

What inspires you and where do you find inspiration when it is lacking? I am actually very inspired by music! I have a plethora of Pandora stations, ipod lists, and cd’s for every mood. Music is almost always on in my studio and when I need to feel a certain way in order to tap into a certain skill or aesthetic I know what musicians to turn to that inspire me. Naturally, like many other florists, I am also inspired by nature and the natural shapes, textures, and wonders of blooms and earthy elements. In addition to that, I am very inspired by the talented artists around me, both in my circle and out.

What do you love most about wedding floral design? Absence makes the heart grow fonder, it really does! I recently took a hiatus when I had a baby and it was the longest break I have taken in about 8 years. I realized that my craft feeds my soul. So I suppose part of what I love is that brides offer me that creative food when they hire me, without them there is not a consistent surge of floral opportunity. Also, it is quiet a privilege to be part of a day so special to each of my clients and that really brings it’s own rewards. Weddings are just a beautiful thing in general.

If you could give bride’s one piece of advice in regards to wedding florals what would it be? This is going to sound obvious but I am sincere rather than cliche in this, hire a professional, and even further than that, select a florist that specializes in event and wedding design. Dont opt out for a crafty friend, neighbor, relative, or other source.  And heavens do not do it yourself! That is not what you want to be doing on your wedding day! Amazing floral design can really truly make or break the aesthetic of a wedding and in some cases can also either make or break the day!

Tell us a little bit about yourself …. Well if you have not already figured this out, I also am one of the owners/editors of UBB. But the most substantial thing I suppose would be that I am a mom! I recently was quoted “If anyone in this family is a super hero, it is me … mom!” and I believe that to be true, arrogant as it might sound. I have 4 gorgeous kids who all look like their dad. One of them has Spina Bifida which means I live a special needs lifestyle as well.  I have been married to my best friend for 14 years and still cant get enough of the lad. I have lived most of my life in only two places, Utah & California. And in addition to my obvious interests I love to snowboard, read, and vacation in any nugget of spare time dedicated to me alone.

What would you call your own floral style and why? I think embracing a style is actually a creative hurdle! Sometimes as a budding artist or an evolving one, style can be hard to identify and often times when it is identified it can be hard to embrace. But what I know is this: my style is most typically traditional, with an allowance for a little bit of flair or spin off in a few other style directions but usually does not stray too far from the traditional root.

What is your favorite up and coming trend? I love big multi-petaled blooms, so I am excited to be working a lot more in the coming year with my own favorite blooms as they are making a stand in the regal look and aesthetic that is overcoming the wedding industry.

Dress Reveal Groomals

Groomal sessions (Bride + Groom) have become super popular over the last couple of years and we really love this idea and think it’s something you totally need to consider doing. I think the main thing that makes couples hesitant on doing a groomal session instead of the traditional bridal session is the fact that the groom will see the dress before the big day. Yes, this is true BUT you can still have that moment of your man seeing you for the first time in your dress and it can still be just as special. By choosing to do groomals before the wedding allows you to get a ton more pics of you guys together without eating into the schedule and stress on your wedding day. In the end you will be SO happy you were able to get more fabulous images of you guys!

Check out this darling groomal session by Kristina Curtis Photography! We love how she captured the moment of the dress reveal to the groom and his expression is priceless! If the dress reveal is important to you this is a perfect concept for your groomal session! And lets not forget to mention the beautiful cherry blossoms in the background. Love!!

Are  you going to do a groomal session with your man or are you going to stick with the traditional bridal session and wait until the wedding for him to see your dress? We want to know your thoughts?!

Paul & Lyndi Engaged

Paul & Lyndi started like this: SHE was dating one of his friends, HE said hello in passing, THEY started to enjoy conversating with each other but were not thinking romantically. Then HE left to be a river guide, THEY talked on the phone everyday and when he returned home feelings that once were perhaps just tiny itty bitty sparks began to illuminate. They chose to have their engagements shot on one of their weekend climbing trips in southern Utah, doing what they love most, being outdoors! I personally love the 70′s type vibe the two have gathered in their style as a couple and how their photographer captured that perfectly in her editing and shooting skills.

Irish Romance Inspired Wedding

Today we have a romantic Irish inspired wedding to show off full of gorgeous details! The shoot was inspired by the feelings Ireland evokes – cozy wool sweaters, mysterious rock cliffs, rustic terrain, and simple family gatherings. This shoot was photographed by Tonya Peterson and was designed by Kim from Petal Pixie, along with their team of vendors did such an amazing job capturing this Irish wedding!

“Our inspiration for the flowers was a rustic romance. We wanted the flowers to be soft and romantic with hints of wildness to them. We used fluffy white garden roses, ranunculus, and sweet peas, offset by the lush delicate greenery, navy berries and blush roses. We kept the table design simple with white dishes, pewter and crystal vessels and pewter candlesticks.  Hand embroidery shamrocks on the napkins give the subtle feel of Ireland.

The stationary was designed with Ireland in mind. The knotted design and use of crisp white and green in the invitations make these invitations look uniquely Irish.  Knitted bands wrapped around the envelope finished the look.

The dress was the perfect combination of simple elegance with its flowing skirt and ruffled bodice.  Along with the soft delicate mantilla veil and halo of ivy reflects the whimsical side of Ireland.  The suit was gray wool tweed, which brought a level of texture and warmth to the shoot.”

Gorgeous Spring Groomals {Brooke & Andrew}

Good morning and hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend! We are back at this week starting things off with Brooke and Andrew’s gorgeous spring groomals shot by the talented David Newkirk! Brooke and Andrew actually found David from the Utah Bride Blog which makes it even more fun that we are featuring them today!

We adore David’s photography style which is very intimate and all about two people in love! He specializes in close up shots of the couple and not so much about the location and tons of props. The most important thing to David is capturing the couple and their connection with each other. David likes to shoot like the photos are stills from a film or movie. It’s very cinematic and real! With David’s background as a fashion photographer he really tries to bring a fashion eye to all of his photos. Fashion photography is all about fantasy and what’s more of a fantasy then a wedding day that really transcends any other day?!

Enjoy!
