Victoria & Dan {In Love}

Today we have a southern Utah desert engagement feature from M.Felt Photography and its a natural bohemian beauty. It’s hard not to love the natural surrounding that our great state has to offer down south but these two make it even better as they so effortlessly fit right into the landscape. Victoria & Dan are not natives to Utah, as they originally hail from Kentucky, but are becoming so as they settle their lives here. We loved how gorgeous these two were and well paired with natural attractiveness and we cant help but be smitten by Dan’s beautiful words about his soon to be wife and their relationship!

Our roots were set in hikes along the Iron Ore trail in Bernhiem Forest, iron and wine playing in our minds and Victoria’s head resting on my back.  We fell in love in the woods where our spirits were true and free. There was something so perfect in those moments and all the moments together since. All this time its been Victoria. After seven years with the girl of my dreams, I came to understand what love is. Its caring for, encouraging, and supporting each other.  Love is living life with her, and I want nothing less than that.

McKenzie & Levi {In Love}

McKenzie and Levi have a special chemistry. They both love the outdoors, traveling and are big rock climbers. Levi proposed while they were rock climbing together in Big Cottonwood Canyon, so that location was a fitting for their engagement session. We can’t get over what a beautiful couple these two make and how equally beautiful all of these images by Kirstin Roper are! So natural, real and stunning! We have said it before and we will keep saying it… we adore the idea of shooting your engagements/bridals in a location that is meaning full to you and your man. It just makes the images that more special! Thank you so much Kirstin for sharing these gorgeous images with us!

UBB Spring 2013 Editorial {Flowers}

Today we finish off our spring 2013 editorial week, always a bitter sweet feeling at the end of a long anticipated week of visual feasting and inspiration, but we do it with a beauty bang and a focus on the floral!

floral3One of the fabulous things about Scenemakers is that they have a highly talented in-house floral department, so they have a lot to offer Utah’s brides with a good deal of quality services, so it made perfect sense to let them take over all the florals for this years spring shoot! And we are so glad they did! A superb job in matching the style of the entire shoot with some of our favorite blooms like the anemone, green goddess calla lilies, and Phalaenopsis orchids!

Allie joins us with some floral insight: With black and white being such a strong theme in our color palette, we couldn’t resist making anemone’s part of our floral look. These cute and whimsical flowers are a great attention grabber with the color blocked black center. We incorporated these into all of our floral.

floral6

For our tabletop floral, we wanted to add flowers that had serious structure, in order to capture a modern feel. Of course orchids fit the bill nicely. They are elegant, modern, and striking – in the way that they almost look sculpted. White phalaeonopsis was our first orchid choice, having big beautiful blooms, and arching stems. Cymbidium were the other orchid that we included, to add some vibrant color. These come in tall stems that have lots of blossoms, which can often be hard to use in an arrangement that has many other types of flowers. To get around this, but still have use of the perfectly molded cymbidium bloom, we sniped each blossom off the stem, and wired them to be able to use sporadically. There were two varieties of this bloom that fit our color palette, the Alice Anderson, and the Golden Wish. Both of these have the lime green color that we wanted. While the Golden Wish brought in hints of yellow, Alice Anderson added spots of white and a hint of burgundy, to help with some drama. White ranunculus, and green hydrangea gave some depth to our orchids, and anemone’s, adding different sizes of blossoms to make the arrangement more interesting. Black containers helped this centerpiece really pop off the white tablecloth.

floral12floral4

Our coffee table floral were simple and clean. One was a modern glass vase with a few stems of Green Goddess winding out of the opening. The other floral was a simple glass cube, lined with bright green reindeer moss, for fun texture, and filled with floral to match the centerpiece.

floral5floral7

For the bouquets, we used most of the same flowers from our centerpiece to keep a cohesive style, in addition to the Green Goddess. This lily was essential in our minds, to add the sleek minimalist element. This stunning flowers is an all green version of the calla lily, and is ultra refined looking. The bridesmaid bouquet was made a little more festive, with fuzzy dianthus, and some pops of yellow freesia, and ranunculus. The bride’s bouquet was kept more elegant. To keep a modern feel we did blocks of the same flowers next to each other, keeping the feel clean and organized. The wraps were obviously going to be black and white, but we wanted to differentiate them a bit. A classic stripe for the bride, and black wrap, with a skinny white band for the maid.

floral10floral11floral8 floral9

The boutonnieres were fun, we got a very cute black and white mini checked ribbon to add texture to the wrap. A white ranuncula bloom for the groom, to match the elegance of the bridal bouquet, and a yellow ranuncula for the groomsman, to match the festive feel of the maid’s bouquets. Both boutonniere’s had mint tied in, to bring some spring scents, as well and match the signature cocktail.

It has been such a fun week sharing with you this modern vibe with a bold and refreshing color scheme that surrounds the Pantone color of the year, Emerald. We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have! A big shout out to our entire team of vendors but especially to Travis J Photography and Scenemakers! We couldnt leave you on just that note, we had to share the great film from David Perry one more time! So take a minute to relax, enjoy, and have a great weekend!

UBB Spring Editorial {Beauty & Fashion}

Beauty and fashion are key elements at any wedding and so that’s why we want to spend a whole day talking about these details. The style of dress, the way you wear your hair, the accessories you choose and the colors you bring into your attire make a statement and set the mood for your event! Today we have the best of the best in Utah sharing tips and advice about looking your best on the big day!

THE DRESS:
“Silk jacquard trumpet gown from Modern Trousseau has a sweetheart neckline and is accented by a sculptural bow at the shoulder. The lines are classic and lean, while the textured, light-weight fabric gives the gown a fresh, singular feel.” – Hilary, Alta Moda Bridal

TJP_6931-Edit

Balance is everything when it comes to weddings. From location to nail polish, it’s important to work with professionals who can keep it just right. This includes your hair and makeup and we can’t express how important it is to hire a professional team who knows all the current trends and tricks to making sure you and your bridal party look perfect on the big day! The team at Enizio is so educated and talented they are our go-to for beauty tips!

HAIR & MAKEUP:
“When working with dominant elements or decor that is the ‘current trend’ it’s crucial to keep makeup natural and hair simple. Too much texture in the hair or over dramatic makeup may be too much and date the entire event all together. Hair and makeup may be what makes or breaks it. I chose a low pony to soften the brides look and it also makes her more inviting in a daytime setting.

Her makeup palette consisted of neutrals which will play well with the entire color scheme. Should a bride want to incorporate color into the makeup when working with strong color schemes, I suggest using complimentary colors to keep the bride the focus of attention. Talk with your makeup artist to know what colors work best with your tones and the tones in your wedding decor.”

utahbrideblog_springeditorial_beautyandfashion5 TJP_7364-Edit

“Because the bride was smooth and classic with pattern in the gown, I reversed the look with the bridesmaid. Solid color dress called for pattern in the hair and gave room to play with the makeup. Dressing the eyes with a bit more drama then the bride will dress up the bridal party and the event all together without dramatizing the bride.”- Cynthia Dean, Enizio

THE JEWELRY:
The perfect jewelry and accessories can really make or break your outfit, which is a key phrase used in any type of fashion. We are huge on choosing the perfect jewelry that fits you and fits your style. Fun colored statement pieces are big this year and Katie Waltman’s designs are perfect! We just die over all the emerald jewels!
“The bride is wearing a hand-picked natural agate gold necklace paired with gold framed emerald earrings and a matching statement ring. This combination, along with a simple stack of beaded emerald wraps and bright gold chain bracelets, adds a fun pop of color to the traditional bridal look.

For the bridesmaid, we went for a more playful look with feathered chains, dangling teardrop earrings and a bright strand of emerald beads” – Katie Waltman

THE BRIDESMAID DRESS:
“Silk shantung Lynn Lugo bridesmaids dress features a cinched natural waistline and surplice neckline. Other favorite details include pockets, a bra-friendly design, and a mod-inspired skirt shape.”Lily & Iris

UBB Spring 2013 Editorial {Table Setting & Edibles}

We love the Palm Springs vibe here at UBB and Scenemakers nailed this cool Viceroy feel. From the upscale modern and clean tableware details to the basil mojito drinks to refresh our modern set! We are talking specifics behind the tableware details, cocktail hour, and that gorgeous modern cake from Layers Cake today! Allie from Scenemakers joins us bringing her design insight to the table …… literally!

cake12

Although I’m no bartender, I have to admit that it was a blast coming up with this drink concept. I loved the idea of a mojito for a spring themed wedding – mint and lime freshness! I wanted to dress it up in a unique way, to capture the modern and fun environment. Of course black white were colors I wanted to somehow add to their display. These fun straws really made it easy. It was still missing some color, so yellow was my nest target. I considered adding a yellow blossom, but who wants a flower in their drink. Finally, the idea of a yellow sugar rim hit – mission accomplished.

cake15

cake11cake9

For display, fresh sprigs of mint, and a tall glass container of limes were perfect accouterments  Bundled black and white straws added some punch, as did the cute signature drink sign by Pink Piggy, held up by a lime with a slit. A white glass table top, and white backdrop made this drink displays stand out. The last details to complete this were a polished quartz crystal tray, with a silver metallic lining, and a cymbidium blossom.

cake14cake10cake13cake8We have a unique familiarity with Palm Springs here at UBB as it would be I have family there providing an easy getaway that I take advantage of often! I know that the vibe exudes lavishness in a cool, modern, and refreshing tone and this table really sets the mood perfectly, I can see myself setting at this exact table in one of my favorite PS resorts!

cake4Linens are the basis for any successful table setting and here Scenemakers started with some gems from Wildflower Linens. An initial drape in White Nu Silk, and napkins set in iridescent taffeta in Emerald green, our focus color and Pantone’s wedding color of the year!  The chairs where dressed in this same Emerald green taffeta.

cake3cake1cake2

We have some fab local sources for tableware that set whatever mood and style you might define as a couple. Many of our local sources also have registries for you planning couples, including Macy’s whom provided some gorgeous details to finish off our table settings. The plates are part of the Sophie Conran White Portmeirion collection. Distinctly ribbed white porcelain that feels feminine while still adding some texture to the table. The goblets are Mikasa Cheers Balloon Goblets, they come in a set that bodes various graphic patterns etched onto the clear glass. The silverware, Riedel stemless glassware, and the crystal platter all came from a pristine private collection. And so the table is set and ready to go for the most divinely modern wedding party!

Our cake created, by Julie Hill at Layers Cake, is nothing short of a modern wedding master piece. This cake belonged in this gallery, like the piece of art it is!

cake5

Julie adds her input: Graphic patterns inspired the cake design along with a bold contrast between black and white. The design was created with black fondant appliques. Sugar Ranunculus flowers add softness and interest, and the couple’s monogram personalizes the design.

She suggests that butter vanilla cake with pistachio Italian meringue butter-cream icing would fit the bill on this one and we agree! Stay tuned for fashion details tomorrow!

UBB Spring 2013 Editorial {Paper & Design Details}

Today we are sharing more from our Spring Editorial and focusing on the paper design and how the design elements were carried into the other decor and details. The stunning invitations were designed by Pink Piggy Design and we are obsessed with how she used modern text combined with fresh + bold patterns to create a statement piece that was carried through out the entire event. We took the square pattern from the back of the invitation and used this as inspiration in the lounge area backdrop design. And what a serious statement and focal point this made! Gorgeous! Your wedding invitations can be a great start for coming up with the overall look and feel of your event.

utahbrideblog_springeditorial_paperdetails2 utahbrideblog_springeditorial_paperdetails1 utahbrideblog_springeditorial_paperdetails3

“For the lounge area we custom painted two 8’ tall by 4’ wide panels to create an exciting backdrop . We wanted to make it modern, with a hint of op art for pizzazz. White and emerald were the color choices for this, to make it feel really lively and current.  White leather lounge furniture is great for creating a clean and bold statement. Throw pillows in lime to give depth to the emerald and white backdrop, were a nice touch, and black and white geometric pillows to bring in the graphic and modern element. We used smaller white coffee tables, so we could stagger them, giving more presence to sleek lines. Straight black pedestals on the sides of the backdrop helped give some height to the décor and floral. We kept this very simple and elemental, with a tall white vases, and branches of yellow forsythia, to bring the warmth in.” Allie Kesler, Scene Makers

UBB Spring 2013 Editorial Feature

Our quarterly editorials are back! Best weeks of the year and we are so excited to kick off our spring 2013 shoot and show you what we have had in the works! Its fresh, clean, modern, colorful, and charming. With a lot of elements and their surrounding details, there will be multiple reasons to visit each day and rejuvenate with creative and beautiful ideas! not to mention the gorgeous visuals and photography courtesy of Travis J Photography.

This time around we are going to start you off with a gorgeous cinematic creation by the immensely talented David Perry! David has been filming weddings full time for over 10 years now, one of the most seasoned in both his industry of film and the wedding industry! He boasts some serious accolades including one of the top 25 best event filmmakers in the world! {EventDV Magazines international survey 2010-2011} And best of state for documentary films! We asked David to share just a little bit about his style:

My films touch the heart because they come from the heart. I care just as much about the experience of the event as I do capturing the event. That’s why so many wedding vendors refer me. Not only do I do great work, but I’m a great team player.

My style is simplistic and timeless with an emphasis on candid moments and details. I am definitely hands off when it comes to posing. Instead, I strive to create a safe environment where others can be who they truly are and have the candid moments unfold naturally. I’m very good at knowing when those candid moments are going to happen and then sharing those on a film.

Utah Bride Blog Spring Shoot from David Perry on Vimeo.

We had a great time on location for this shoot because all our spring vendors were so easy to interact with, professional, and on top of their game! Our photographer, Travis J, set the mood and we loved every minute of this smooth modern shoot. And of course he output some generous work that hit this style right on the nail!

One of our new 2013 vendors joined us in the conceptualizing and design of this editorial, contributing a good deal of detail and planning, Scenemakers! They created a gorgeous tablescape and a hip lounge area with a modern viceroy vibe! Allie Kesler headed this up and we asked her to share some input today on the design vibe!

For this spring shoot we wanted to create a modern and fresh wedding. We incorporated lots of geometrics into the styling, to give a structured and clean feel, while using a color palette that was at once, classy and exciting. Black and white were a big part of this formula, giving a clean cut, upscale vibe. Emerald and lime greens played off of each other for some depth, and a feeling of energetic spring growth. Yellow accents were added for the perfect amount of warmth. To give some youthful character to the modern environment we wanted, inspiration was found from some hip mid-century modern Palm Springs hotels. The bride I picture wanting this wedding, is sophisticated, but still playful and exciting. She may be a graphic designer or collector of modern art. There is a hip sophistication to her personal style.

We chose an equally perfect for this style venue, the 15th Street Gallery in Sugarhouse! Allie collaborated with us on this and also shares with us the insight behind this choice!

To achieve the look we wanted, a very white and clean space was required.  Our venue choice for this Spring Inspiration wedding was perfectly accommodated by the beautiful 15th Street Gallery. It’s all white walls and floors transformed our vision into a reality. This is a working art gallery, with a focus on painting from local Utah artists. When considering this venue for your own wedding, be aware that you just may luck out with some amazing art work gracing the walls of your event. The front of this gallery has a small boutique, filled with stunning vases and jewelry. Nestled in the quaint little 15th and 15th shopping area, be sure to grab a bite to eat at one of the neighboring cafes or restaurants, when you stop to check out this potential venue site. I think a gallery in general is well suited to this style of wedding. There are lots of small locally owned gallery’s out there that would certainly invite some extra cash for an evening rental. A gallery wedding really instills an intimate setting, that is sure to be remembered by all of your guests.

And without further ado ……

Flower Friday: Spring Groomal Blooms

IMG_4595EXTENSIONsamijophotoIts flower Friday! And this week it really does feel like spring! Today Sami Jo Photo & Flower Afternoon take us into  bloom bliss with a look at a unique groomal session and its flower accents!

blogfWe loved this dancer bride’s carefree mood at the park and her unique fashion, a bit more on the casual side but with soft romantic almost bohemian style. Her floral crown moves us right into what is in high trend for today’s bride and her gorgeous bouquet has a unique style & shape that appeals to nature and still feels very bridal. Val with Flower Afternoon joins us with a bit of insight!

2IMG_4779EXTENSIONsamijophoto

This Utah winter was rough and, as you can see in the photographs, there was still snow present on the day of the shoot. In a desperate attempt to feel Spring I used the most vibrant and warm colors I could get my hands on.

The bouquet was a layered design with a base of peach Juliet roses, ranunculus, hypericum berries, and my favorite pink parasol spray roses – think miniature garden rose. These flowers all tend to be hardy and are great options when longevity is needed for the wedding day. The yellow eremurus and snapdragons reaching out of the back of the bouquet look like a sunburst, giving a wild frame to a classy and compact look.

For the headpiece, I used the same recipe of flowers used in the base of the bouquet, keeping the flowers bunched in the back in an almost symmetric pattern to even the weight. It keeps the headpiece balanced and is unlikely to flop around by being secured to the back of the head. The last thing you want is the stress that might come with readjusting a weighty unsupported headpiece! A sturdy green, like the acacia I used, is great for keeping the headpiece in place. This floral crown would be a great option for a bride who doesn’t want all the focus to be on the flowers but wants to feminine and elegant.

The boutonniere is sweet and simple! A single parasol spray rose, some acacia greens, and a touch of hypericum berry. Great contrast makes this bout stand out against the slate gray suit!

Featured Wedding {Laurel & Jordan}

Ok friends! Brace yourself for one to die for wedding full of gorgeous images by Jessica Kettle and beautiful details! Laurel and Jordan had a sunny Las Vegas temple wedding and a STUNNING reception in the bride’s family home which was not your every day back yard wedding. One of our favorite details from this wedding is the accents of blue! Blue can sometimes be a little hard to bring into your color palette and if not used right it can look a little unrealistic and cheesy, but if it is used subtlety it can be simply gorgeous, classic and timeless! This wedding is seriously swoon worthy and we had the hardest time narrowing down images because they were are so lovely! Thank you so much Jessica for sharing this wedding with us!
