Outfits For Flowers {Flower Tip Friday}

Today a guest post from one of our preferred florists … Miss Melissa Nickle with Blossom Sweet!
We once had a client tell us that the handle treatments on Blossom Sweet bouquets look like ‘little outfits for flowers.’  What an adorable description!  The following image is of one of our favorite bouquet “outfits” (you may recognize it from last year’s UBB Spring Shoot for which we created the floral designs).  Ever since this particular design was posted, it has been one of our most requested wrap styles.  We began the handle treatment with a satin ribbon wrap and a lace overlay.  We then draped burlap and strands of pearls, along with additional draping ribbon and lace.  The design was completed with a gold rose pin (which, by the way, is over fifty years old!).
Ah, yes.  The bouquet handle treatment is an important (yet unfortunately all-too-often neglected) element of your floral design concept.  But how do you determine what such a detail should be?  Well, first of all, remember that any florist worth her (or his) salt can provide you with several creative options in a consultation setting.  However, if you want to get a head-start on the brainstorming front, you can start by taking a look at your wedding fashion choices.  If your preferred style is a modern look based on graphic patterns and bold lines, you would want to steer clear of lace and frilly details.  Makes sense, right?
For example, the following images are of various bouquet wrap styles we found online.  After a little digging and a lot of searching we were able to find what are our interpretations of each wrap’s everyday fashion equivalent.  Here’s what we came up with:
Can you see how the fashion relates to and influences the floral?  Remember that you don’t have to be matchy-matchy to be stylish, you just have to be inspired by something.  We hope that this tip will be helpful to you in choosing the details for your bouquet handle treatment.  Happy planning!

  1. It’s a great idea designing “outfits” for flower bouquets. I love the lace and the arrangement of colors.

  2. I love this post! “Outfits” add so much to a bouquet.
