UBB Summer 2012 Inspiration: Fashion

One of our favorite weeks continues with an up close and personal look at the fashion side of our summer inspiration shoot! The details really make the atmosphere beautiful, but the beautiful people give it life!

First we take a look at our gorgeous bride, her gown, her accessories, and her hair & makeup! Her gown came from Utah’s most exquisite bridal boutique, Alta Moda. Designed by Augusta Jones a silk chiffon soft knotted empire with a split skirt and train felt perfect for this water color dream. Hilary @ Alta Moda shares with us some fashion insight …

Silk chiffon is an ever-popular and wise choice when it comes to bridal gowns. It’s flattering, cool, and timeless; much is the case with this Augusta Jones gown. The fabric remains billowy while moving and dancing about. When chiffon is paired with a slim silhouette, it becomes perfect for outdoor weddings. The silhouette is classic, harkening back to a Jane Austen-esq feel, but updated with lean lines and effortless accessories.

That rock is incredible right? Who says your stunner has to be the kind you find at a traditional jeweler?! We adored having Katie Waltman works of art on all our models for this shoot and this rock just steals the show! What is it you ask? We know your all dying to know! A lavender colored geode encased in a thick gold plate setting! Here is what Katie had to say about her custom selection for us:

Given the overall nature inspired mood for this event, I wanted the jewelery to reflect the organic dimension that was captured. I used mostly neutral colors with subtle pops of pastel tones. My jewelery line is filled with natural elements such as textured gold leaf clusters and irregular shaped stones. To give it a more formal tone I added a few elegant gold chains and crystals.

One of the most common things I hear from a brides is that they are hesitant to wear jewelery that might take away from their gown. On the contrary, jewelery can be something that ties the whole look together. My favorite part of the jewelery selection was the non traditional wedding ring, it was just the right addition to the free spirited nature of the shoot!

Cynthia Dean the owner and master artist @ Enizio Hair & Makeup Artistry brought her team and did what she does best, accentuated the natural beauty that was already there. She shares with us some insight on how her and her team created the looks on these gorgeous models.

To bring balance and focus to the softer side of the concept we decided to play up and enhance natural features but we also punctuated with a little something extra to make it more wedding appropriate. Working with the natural texture of the hair was important in order to demonstrate that a natural look really can work for a wedding, this was especially true for the maids. We used softer versions of the color palette that you see throughout the entire wedding in the makeup for the bridesmaids in order to enhance their natural beauty and create an elegant cohesive look. But for the bride we felt she needed a little something to set her apart especially with the gowns being so similar. Her hair was swept up in a low updo with a side swept bang. This updo paired with a little bit more color in her makeup set her apart just enough. Our team felt these looks were cohesive with an afternoon wedding and soft enough to look and feel natural but done up enough to be as polished as you would expect a bride and her maids to be!

Our bridesmaid Mia is wearing a soft strapless gown from the Dessy collection in ivory lux chiffon, a full length dress with a satin belt to go with the shirred bodice and skirt. Our other bridesmaid Shakira is wearing an After Six design also in ivory lux chiffon, full length, shirred skirt, and satin belt. But this lovely gown drapes off the shoulder for another look. Both found at our local bridesmaid boutique Lily & Iris. Lenni from this prestigious source shares with us a bit about the gowns:

Soft, flowing bridesmaid fabrics are always in style. There is such a classic, timeless look to a dress that really lets the personality and vitality of the girl wearing it show through. We love the feel of these ivory chiffon maids dressed to compliment the easy lines of the bridal gown. With similar skirt styles, but differing cuts to the bodice of each dress, each style compliments the other while giving a flair of individuality to each dress and each girl.

Next we take a look at our handsome and fashionable groom in his Beckett & Robb duds and Andrew Beesley custom ring.

The days when fashion was focused on the bride and the groom hardly wore anything beyond a black tux are long gone. Many custom suit companies adorn fashionable grooms with well fitted attire. Our groom wore a custom 3-piece custom suit made of 100% worsted wool, light gray with a white pinstripe and pink lining, contrasting buttonholes and all hand sewn. Designed by Beckett & Robb.

This suit was designed for a wedding by a couple that had a very specific shade of bright pink in mind.  We’ve had a lot of clients incorporate their wedding colors into the linings and/or thread of their suits.  We’ve also seen a trend toward building custom neck ties or bow ties (which we offer) out of our stock of over 200 unique shades of silk.  We’ve also seen a lot of guys choose a three-piece suit.  The vest adds a higher level of formality during the ceremony. When it’s time to dance, shed the jacket but still look dressy with the vest.
Our groom is wearing a custom ring from Andrew Beesley. A 5mm wide, 24 karat, domed wedding band with a satin hammered finish. The pure gold gives the band a rich warm glow and the rustic finish gives it a subtle but beautiful look.
