Handmade was the name of the game with this couple. They wanted to put their own personal touches into everything, and create heirlooms that they could use in their future home, not just as wedding decor. The bride made her flower crown and bouquet herself that morning (she is such a beauty — can you believe she didn’t wear any makeup?!). Hundreds of feet of handmade bunting — the white party flags — were strung across beams and branches to give the feeling of a real party. We are so in love with these images from Alex Steele Photography .
From the Bride:
“Planning our wedding was a lot of fun and work that built up the excitement just right. Because we were focused on not having an expensive wedding, we naturally gravitated towards a handmade style, and the involvement of friends and family. This ended up making the reception more fun and beautiful than we had imagined. Parents, grandparents, and siblings all were huge helps before and during the wedding. Holding the reception in my neighbors’ beautiful home and backyard was the icing on the cake for a perfect, memorable day.
One of my favorite parts of the day was surprising Dustin with a song during the reception. I had convinced my family to help me sing “Be My Baby” by the Ronnettes. We broke out the drum machine, with my brother on piano, my sister on cello, myself on lead vocal and violin, and my parents and siblings singing backup. Dustin shed some pretty great tears of joy while I attempted to keep my cool.
Having a photographer that we were good friends with made documenting the day fun and memorable. We felt free to be our goofy selves and take our time with her. Alex made us feel like the Cat’s meooww!
Because of the people involved and the heirlooms we made, we will always remember the love and excitement that made our wedding day perfect for us.”
