It’s about time for a wedding cake post right?! I thought so too! First thing I did was contact the two talented cake designers we have here on the blog as preferred vendors Julie with Layers-cake & Tasha with Cake-a-licious and got their most current thoughts on 2012 trends, then some research of my own to come up with a bit of a cake trend spotlight for you today!
Cakes are no exception to the current return back to tradition in wedding trends for 2012. Brides are choosing to go back to the traditional white tones and they are getting away from the complicated designs of past years and going back to what tastes good, is simple, and beautiful. One word is the key here = BUTTERCREAM!
Julie @ Layers Cakes tells us that tone on tone is the key when it comes to color, rather then bright contrasts and details of yesteryear, white on white or varied hues of light and pale colors are what is desirable, something that looks and feels natural will also look delicious, and of course with Julie it will!! Also on the trend front, anything feminine! Think lace, ruffles, polka dots, floral work!
Tasha @ Cake-a-licious shared with me her thoughts on the come back of buttercream. It is of the opinion of many that it actually does taste better than the fondant craze we have grown accustomed too. And going along with our theme here it looks much more natural for a cake, therefor appealing to not only the eye but the stomach too! She expressed the endless possibilities of texture with this delicious medium, anything from sleek and smooth, to slightly textured, to think and creamy! And lots of ruffle play! She also told me that multiple cakes continue to be on the rise, a table full of pretty options is always a crowd pleaser.
To sum it all up in a few words: Feminine, pale tones, multiples, looks & tastes like great cake! Thanks Julie & Tasha!
